Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had three very large trees removed by Garwood Tree Services at my residential address about a year ago. Ryan did a very fair quote up for me and the boys did a fantastic job of dropping all the trees. I'd recommend this company to anyone thinking of getting rid of some trees anywhere in The Scenic Rim area. They are fast, honest and above all safe. Thanks Garwood Tree Services!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Garwoods turned up on time and were very efficient with the process of removing a large tree close to the shed. Every part of the work was handled professionally. The area was left very tidy. This is the second time we have used Garwoods and I highly recommend their services. Thanks again.

Professional tree removal, pruning & palm cleaning services

The Northern Gold Coast features a unique botanical landscape – from coastal palm species and dense tea-tree wetlands to towering native eucalypts and fast-growing exotic vegetation.

Combined with severe summer supercell storms, high coastal winds and humid weather, unmaintained trees present serious structural risks to homes, powerlines, pools, and boundary fences.

At Garwood Tree Services, we service people looking for tree lopping and execute scientific, AS 4373-2007 compliant arborist pruning.

Indiscriminate “tree topping” causes weak regrowth and decay; our certified arborists utilise crown lifting, canopy thinning, and selective directional pruning to keep your trees structurally sound, aesthetically beautiful, and storm-ready.

Servicing northern Gold Coast suburbs & growth corridors

We maintain dedicated crews operating daily across the Northern Gold Coast:

Coomera & Upper Coomera (4209)
New housing estates, tight boundary clearance, solar panel shade management, and backyard gum tree felling.

Pimpama & Ormeau (4208 / 4209)
Rapid growth corridor, land clearing, body corporate covenant compliance, and boundary dispute pruning.

Helensvale & Oxenford (4210 / 4212)
Established residential lots, large eucalyptus canopy control, pool overhang trimming, and storm prep.

Hope Island & Sanctuary Cove (4212)
Luxury waterfront estates, golf course boundary trimming, resort palm cleaning, and tight-access crane removals.

Arundel & Pacific Pines (4214 / 4211)
Bushland fringe properties, severe storm hazard reduction, and asset protection fire break clearing.

Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) Tree laws & permit guidelines

Navigating tree protection regulations on the Gold Coast can be confusing for homeowners, developers, and body corporates. The City of Gold Coast Vegetation Management Code enforces strict rules regarding vegetation clearing and tree preservation.

The 4m height & 40cm trunk girth permit rule explained

Before removing or heavily pruning a tree on your Northern Gold Coast property, you must understand the key Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) permit triggers:

Tree height threshold: Any tree with a height exceeding 4 metres requires council evaluation prior to removal unless exempt.
Trunk girth threshold: Any tree with a trunk circumference exceeding 40 centimetres (measured at 1.4 metres above natural ground level) requires a formal permit or arborist assessment.
Bushfire 10/50 clearance exemptions: Under Queensland state bushfire clearing regulations, property owners inside designated Bushfire Prone Areas may clear trees within 10 metres of a residential dwelling without a permit.
Declared weed & pest exemptions: Invasive species such as Camphor Laurel, Cocos Palms, Broad-Leaved Pepper Trees, and Chinese Elms do not require council permits for removal.
Hazardous & dead tree clearance: Immediate hazard risks (verified with photographic evidence and AQF Level 3/5 arborist reports) can be cleared to prevent emergency structural damage.

Garwood Tree Services conducts formal Protected Tree Checks for $80.00 to verify GCCC mapping, ensuring your tree work is 100% legal and risk-free.

Specialised tree care for Northern Gold Coast Properties

Palm trees (including Cocos Palms, Alexander Palms, Date Palms, and Canary Island Date Palms) are ubiquitous across Northern Gold Coast suburbs like Hope Island, Sanctuary Cove, and Helensvale. However, unmaintained palms create significant property hazards:

Pest & bat harborage
Decaying fronds and heavy seed pods attract fruit bats, flying foxes, rats, and snakes, dropping sticky, corrosive droppings onto driveways, cars, and patio roofs.

Storm & pool hazards
Heavy dry fronds snap in high coastal winds, clogging pool filtration systems and smashing glass fencing or solar panels.

Our palm solutions
We offer two specialised services:

Sanitary palm pruning
Removing all dead fronds and stripping seed pods to eliminate bat and pest food sources without killing the palm.

Complete palm removal & stump grinding
Safely felling palms, extracting root balls, and grinding stumps below ground level so you can replanting or pave over the area.

Storm season readiness & emergency removal (24/7)

The Northern Gold Coast growth corridor frequently cops the brunt of summer coastal supercells. Saturated sandy soils cause root plate lifting (windthrow) in large gum trees. We provide pre-storm hazard mitigation (deadwood removal and crown thinning) and 24/7 emergency response for trees fallen on houses, driveways, or powerlines.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What are Gold Coast Council's rules for cutting down a tree?

Gold Coast City Council requires a permit if a tree exceeds 4 metres in height or 40cm in trunk girth (at 1.4m height), unless exempt under bushfire 10/50 rules or declared pest species lists. Garwood Tree Services can check your property’s exact overlay status.

How do you handle palm trees overhanging swimming pools or glass fences?

We use specialised rigging systems, bucket trucks (EWPs), and manual climbing harness control to lower fronds, heavy seed pods, and palm trunks section-by-section without dropping debris into pools or onto delicate surrounds.

Do you service body corporate estates and commercial properties in Coomera & Hope Island?

Yes. We regularly service body corporates, school grounds, commercial developments, and private residential estates, providing comprehensive arborist reports, SWMS documentation, and $20M insurance proof.

Tree Lopping vs. Arborist Pruning: Protecting your property value

Feature / Aspect	Crude “Tree Topping” (Avoid)	Garwood AQF Arborist Pruning (AS 4373)
Cut Method	Arbitrary stubs cut across main vertical trunks	Precise cuts at branch collars preserving vascular health
Regrowth Impact	Triggers rapid, weak “epicormic” shoots prone to snapping	Promotes strong, natural, structurally balanced branch unions
Tree Longevity	Causes internal rot, fungal infestation, and early tree death	Extends tree lifespan and enhances natural canopy shape
Council Legality	Violates GCCC vegetation standards; risk of municipal fines	100% compliant with council guidelines & Australian Standards
